Microchipping

pets

It is a legal requirement for both dogs and cats to be microchipped.

A tiny microchip (about the size of a grain of rice) is quickly and easily implanted under the skin, permanently identifying your pet.

For dogs it is a legal requirement to be microchipped by 8 weeks of age and the owner's contact details kept up to date on the microchip database.

For cats it became a legal requirement in June 2024. Cats must have a microchip before they are 20 weeks of age.

It is of vital importance that once your pet has a microchip you keep your contact details up to date on the microchip database so you can be contacted.

Owners who fail to comply may be subject to penalties of up to £500.

Many other species can also be microchipped including horses (which is a legal requirement), rabbits, ferrets and tortoises to name a few! Please contact us to arrange an appointment if your pet requires a microchip.
